Dr. Steven Caluwaerts

(ORCID: 0000-0001-7456-3891) Dr. Steven Caluwaerts finished in 2016 his PhD research on the scalability of the ALADIN dynamical core. As a postdoc he broadened his research horizon towards urban climate and regional climate modeling. For the latter he used the ALARO model and participated in RCM experiments over Europe and Central-Asia. Initiating the MOCCA urban climate network in Gent (6 stations, since 2016) and the VLINDER citizen science network in Flanders (71 stations, since 2019), he built a strong expertise on monitoring the urban climate. He recently started as a FED-tWIN researcher for AURA, a project with the aim of advancing the atmospheric models used by IRM-KMI and UGent. He is working 50% at the IRM-KMI and 50% as tenure track professor at UGent where he is teaching dynamical meteorology and supervising PhD students. In 2021 he received a science communication award by the Koninklijke Vlaamse Academie van België voor Wetenschappen en Kunst for the citizen science project VLINDER.
